Emerald on Pyrite and Calcite

Chivor, Eastern Emerald Belt, Boyacá, Colombia.

The pyrite is a very common mineral in the emeralds mining region in Colombia. However, not very often we can find emerald crystals matrixes on pyrite, just like this specimen that features an emerald directly on a pyrite aggregate. We have to highlight the two main emerald crystals with a beautiful green color that contrast with the golden color of the pyrite and the white section of the calcite behind. Very aesthetical specimen.
